Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has successfully integrated into the international community, underlined Jean Pierre Archambault, Secretary General of the France-Vietnam Friendship Association (AAFV).

Commenting on Vietnam’s efforts in international integration and the development of diplomacy between peoples, Archambault said that Vietnam won two wars, marking the world history of the 20th century – the victory of Dien Bien Phu which ended the struggle against the French colonialists in 1954 and victory in the war of resistance against US imperialism in 1975.

These victories showed Vietnam’s success in fighting and mobilizing international support and solidarity, and integrating it into the anti-oppression movement of people around the world, he said.

After 1975, Vietnam helped Cambodia overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime and fought for the lifting of the trade embargo from the United States and Western countries which lasted until 1994.

Archambault said that all these elements forged Vietnam’s strong political will to fully integrate into the international community.

The most convincing proof of this success is that at the 73rd United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Vietnam was elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term with 192 votes out of 193, he noted.

Regarding interpersonal diplomacyVietnam has also received great support from friendship and solidarity associations around the world, including the AAFV.

Established in 1961, the AAFV has continuously developed cooperative relations with associations of friendship with Vietnam to carry out solidarity activities with the Vietnamese people, such as material and spiritual support for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange / dioxin, and the support of the sections of the AAFV for disadvantaged Vietnamese. .

The AAFV has also organized seminars and published the magazine Perspective to help the French get to know Vietnam better, thus helping to develop dynamic and effective models of cooperation between the two countries.
